Glancing at the weather toolbar I have installed on my computer, I just noticed that the low forecast for this corner of Switzerland for tonight is a mere 5°C. That’s cold for September, even for Switzerland, but it reminded me that yet another winter is just around the corner. It seems like the last one just ended. I generally prefer summer (I like heat), but admit that there is a certain charm to winter, especially in places where it gets very cold and snows and where it gets dark early but the winter light is replaced by Christmas lights and markets.
But with winter creeping up on us again, I’m reminded of the saying “life is like a roll of toilet paper – the closer you get to the end, the faster it goes“. Apart from the obvious link of me being an engineer and the relationship between radius and circumference (engineers are supposed to like things like this, right?) which I won’t bore you with because I’m sure you already know it, I kind of like the saying (even if it is kind of stupid) because it’s so true – did the seasons really change this quickly even just a few years ago? Maybe it’s global warming, not age. Yes, that must be it.

Uffa – I’m not ready for autumn, let alone winter… It feels like I’ve had no summer this year
I don’t know if it was the same in Sweden, but down here summer only really showed up in August (conveniently when I finished work though). Having skied right up until the beginning of May I was looking forward to a long summer, but so much for that!
As for you… what about working in Australia? You’d get your summer that way
In London we had some great summer days in May, but I was stuck inside studying for my finals, and the one week of heat and sunshine that I got in Sweden in August just wasn’t enough
I’ve added Australia to my list!
