After a relatively busy weekend (people to see, bars to visit…), I wasn’t really expecting to have much of substance to post at the end of the weekend – except for the following video which is pretty funny.
However, that all changed when I decided to go for a cycle round/through town on Sunday evening, since the weather was decent and I had nothing better to do. Turns out it was a good idea! First off there was a beautiful sunset – there were some thunderstorms around during the afternoon, and there were still quite a few relatively low-lying clouds clinging to the surrounding mountains, so as the sun went down it cast a light, varying from bright orange to deep red, on those remaining clouds and on the mountains that rise up from the edge of the lake. The best part was that every minute it changed – from lighting up the entire mountain range, to highlighting an individual cloud or cliff face, with different colours and different intensities.
I also came across a group of swans (rumor has it a group of swans is known as a bevy, herd or lamentation, but I’m going to stick with group because the others just don’t sound right) standing on the lake shore watching the sunset. Well, as you can see in the shot below, they seemed to believe that preening themselves was more important… (plus from the angle I took the picture you can’t actually see the sunset)
After spending a good 20 minutes watching the light change, I slowly meandered my way round the edge of the lake. Right next to the center of Annecy there is a grassy area called the Paquier, with a wooded park right next to it. In this park they had set up an open-air temporary dance floor, with a live band playing (dance styles like the twist, charleston, etc.), so people walking past could go for a dance or three.
With the great location on the edge of the lake and the sunset, the atmosphere was quite something. Being on my own I didn’t dance (all of the ladies were already with someone else and besides, I didn’t feel like making a fool of myself yesterday evening
), but the scene did provide me with some good photo opportunities.
Don’t forget that if you click on the pictures you can see them full-size, which has obvious benefits over the size they appear in this post.
