On the edge of the old town of Annecy is a little cheese shop called La Cremerie du Lac. They sell dairy products, primarily cheese although also eggs, milk, butter etc., as well as wine and jam. They have a wide selection of cheeses, local (e.g. Reblochon, Tomme, etc.), other French cheeses (e.g. St. Nectaire, St. Marcellin, Mothais), a few Swiss cheeses and a few other foreign cheeses (such as Stilton). They have a couple of cheeses fait maison but most importantly I’ve discovered that they have their own cave to affiner (kind of like ripen) their cheeses. Two of my favorite cheeses (from previous experience…) are St. Marcelin and St. Felicien. The shop affine both of these cheeses in their cave and the result is, predictably, delicious, especially with warm bread from the boulangerie and a nice bottle of red wine. However, recently I’ve tasted a couple of other cheeses from them which are come remarkably close to toppling one of theaforementioned favorites from the top position, such as the Mothais… anyway, if you ever
pass through Annecy, the shop is definitely worth a stop as you’re strolling through town.
And in case you were wondering, I took the pictures while they were closed for lunch – I wasn’t sure how much they’d appreciate me photographing their shop! The second shot is a close-up view of the cheeses and wines in the window.

If I ever go to Annecy I’ll make sure that I get a great photo of the river and that I pass by this little cheese shop!
